Latest Player News NFL MLB NBA PGA Tour All Player News George Kirby SEA Starting Pitcher #68 George Kirby held the Royals to three hits with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings to help the Mariners to a win Monday by a 6-2 score. After struggling for the majority of his start against the Twins, Kirby bounced back nicely. As is usually the case, he didn’t put on any runners via walk, and he pounded the strike zone with 68-of-101 pitches going for strikes. When Kirby doesn’t have his best stuff/command the results can be problematic. He usually does. Kirby will face the Orioles next. Rhys Hoskins MIL First Baseman #12 Rhys Hoskins said a hamstring injury caused him to leave Monday’s game and that he’ll have an MRI on Tuesday morning. Not good. One imagines the Brewers will bring Tyler Black back to the majors now. He was short-changed in his first opportunity, and he might well be a fine replacement for Hoskins. Shota Imanaga CHC Starting Pitcher #18 Shota Imanaga struck out eight over five shutout innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Braves. Imanaga continues to be an unexpected revelation in his Cubs debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer for the eighth consecutive start in this one. The 30-year-old southpaw silenced Atlanta’s formidable lineup, scattering seven hits and three walks over five scoreless frames. He induced a staggering 18 swinging strikes and finished with a 27 percent CSW, needing 98 pitches (58 strikes) to get through five innings. He’ll bring a sublime 0.96 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 51/8 K/BB ratio across 46 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a favorable home outing on Saturday against the Pirates. Adley Rutschman BAL Catcher #35 Adley Rutschman clobbered a pair of solo homers on Monday in the Orioles’ loss to the Blue Jays. Rutschman took Blue Jays starter José Berríos deep in the fourth and sixth innings to record the first multi-homer performance of his young career. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone, who has gone deep in back-to-back contests, is batting .309/.343/.491 with 23 runs scored, eight homers, 25 RBI and one steal through 175 plate appearances this season. TJ Friedl CIN Left Fielder #29 Reds placed OF TJ Friedl on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb. The report yesterday was that X-rays were negative on Friedl’s thumb after he was hit by a pitch, but it seems that wasn’t the case. Friedl was injured in his sixth game since returning from a sprained wrist. The Reds figure to go back to Will Benson in center, but they might want to give the newly recalled Jacob Hurtubise a shot. Adbert Alzolay CHC Relief Pitcher #73 Cubs placed RHP Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list with a strained right forearm. Those are never good. Alzolay, who also missed time with a forearm strain late last year, was bounced from the closer’s role in April after blowing his fourth save in seven tries. He had been reasonably effective of late and even picked up a save in a 10-inning game yesterday, but as a result of the injury, everyone holding on to him in fantasy leagues can probably move on now. Hector Neris has been the Cubs’ primary closer of late. Brandon Nimmo NYM Left Fielder #9 Brandon Nimmo played the role of hero on Sunday night in New York, crushing a walk-off two-run homer off of A.J. Minter to deliver a 4-3 victory over the Braves. The Mets entered the final frame trailing 3-2, but things got interesting after Jeff McNeil started it off with a bunt single. He was then sacrificed to second base by Tomas Nido. McNeil got an unbelievable jump on a 2-1 offering to Nimmo and looked to have third base stolen, but Nimmo fouled the pitch off and showed clear frustration with himself over the situation. Not to worry though, as two pitches later he pulverized a cutter from Minter for a 396-foot (103.7 mph...
